Bio: My name is David Press and I am a graduate of the
Russell J. Jandoli School of Journalism and Mass Communication
at St. Bonaventure University, which is currently ranked by US
News and World Report as one of the best journalism schools in
the country.
However,
what I'm looking for here is not journalism, but representation
that will showcase my work at its best. I've completed one novella
(approximately 20,000 words), partnered on one screenplay and
working on three short stories for a collection.
The
novella, entitled "The Field House," is a murder-mystery
with some supernatural elements revolving around a film student
who is working for a small town newspaper during his summer break.
This young man, Jerem Davis, regards this town and his job as
nothing but source material for a screenplay, which is exactly
what he gets. A well-regarded local novelist seemingly murders
his wife and makes extraordinary claims that the ghost of the
house killed her. Jerem, swept up into this investigation finds
what seems to be an obvious cry for an insanity plea may not be
entirely fictional.
"Shadow
of Mind," a screenplay written with Timothy James Brearton
regards the life and death consequences of when a friend ditches
town and owes a large sum of money to a drug dealer and how that
effects his two friends. Tristan, a young writer who has a hard
time differentiating between fantasy and reality, and Shae a restaurant
manager with a child on the way find their lives changed by their
friend's indiscretions. However, when robbery detective Mark Leary
gets involved he finds there may be more to this than three friends
and their substance abuse issues.
I'm
currently working on three short stories about a crew of graveyard
shift news wire editors who are attacked by technologically enhanced
soldiers and how they get through it. This short story, called,
"The Graveyard (Shift)!" is meant to be a spoof of genre
movies such as The Howling and along the lines of Shaun of the
Dead. The second story revolves around a son who travels with
his father to Egypt to learn the family business of importing
clothes and finds that he is not enamored with the process when
he discovers what kind of life the people who work for his father
live. The third story has to do with a group of friends a few
months out of college and the adventures they have during New
Years in New York City.
